Counsellors

Counsellors have learnt how to talk with children about things that are difficult for them, perhaps at school or at home. We listen to your worries and your parents’ worries and help you think of ways to make things better so everyone can be less worried or sad.

We use different types of ideas to help you understand how we help things to get better.

Nurses

Nurses in our service don’t wear uniforms or give you medicine to make you feel better. They don’t weigh you or check you are healthy like school nurses do.

We help you and your mum and dad by talking with you all. You might feel very angry at times, or sad and upset. Sometimes you are unhappy at school and finding this difficult. While we talk to you about this we might paint or draw with you or play a game.

It could be we see you on your own or maybe with your mum or dad. We will do this until you feel better and not so upset or angry. This could be once or twice, or maybe for a long time if we need to.

Psychologists

We are “talking doctors” who listen to you and your parents talking about things that worry you or make you sad. We also like to hear about happy things in your family so that we can help you and your parents enjoy life more and have fewer upset feelings.

Sometimes we use toys and games and puzzles to help you know what would be the best way to make you feel more happy. We may see you by yourself or with your mum and dad.

Social Worker

Social workers help to put your wishes and feelings at the centre of our work. We usually have extra training to work in ways that are helpful to you and your family. We understand how the law for children helps you and are able to tell other people who work with us about this. We do this particularly when you need to be kept safe.

As well as working with you and your family, we often work with lots of the other people involved such as schools, hospitals and social care.

Child Psychiatrists

We are doctors who help you if you have problems with how you think or feel or behave. We work with you and your family to understand what the problems are and decide what to do about them.

Art Psychotherapists.

Sometimes you may find it difficult to describe how you feel and find it easier to draw pictures about your problems and things you would like to be different. We work with you in this way to help you understand and solve your problems.

Child Psychotherapist.

We are trained to understand why you do things and what it means. We work with you and your family to help you all to understand why you feel like you do and what we can do to make you feel better.

Family Therapy

The way Family Therapy works is based on helping people to talk about their worries as a family. Sometimes other people who know about the worries, like close friends, or teachers may also be invited. Bringing people together can help them understand each other better.

The therapist will try to understand the difficulties you and your family have been facing. You may be seen by one person working on their own, or by two or more people who work together closely as a group. They will be thinking of useful ideas to share with you and your family to help things get better.
